Don’t like GNOME3? Use Gentoo. As long as you’re using the stable branch and don’t unmask the unstable GNOME, you’ll have GNOME2 for quite a while yet until GNOME3 is marked stable.
Lol for one to do that though they would have to install gentoo though. I think for most people its worth the loss to just suck it up and use xfce, or LXDE or… something else.
I don’t really know why someone would be so attached to gnome 2 it is pretty old, doesn’t debian still have gnome2? not to mention the old layout can be used with updated gtk3 and other gnome3 apps.
Personally I like Gnome3 but prefer openbox+awn+nautilus.
